  • Founded on March 7, 1887
    • North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts was the original name to NC State
    • Annual tuition in 1989 - $130, students could make 7 cents an hour for an on campus job
    • 1st Ph.D. was awarded in Sociology by Jesse Mowry in 1926.
    • The campus is comprised of 2,110 acres.
    • NC State holds over 350 technology patents
       
  • NC State elected a Pirate Captain as student body president.

  • NC State holds a Ram Roast every year before the UNC football game.
    • First NC State football game was held on March 12, 1892 against Raleigh Male Academy, score 12-6.
    • After a big win the University lights up the Bell Tower with red lights at night.
       
  • Only University with a Mr & Ms Mascot. The duo began their friendship in the early 1970's.
     
  • What's with all the bricks? According to the NC State website, all but two of the buildings on main campus are constructed in brick, as are numerous walkways and sculptures. There are probably as many myths about the bricks at NC State as there are actual bricks. What is known about the bricks is NC State Historical Photothat the original bricks for Holladay Hall were donated by the state prison and were built by the inmates. Regardless of the reasons, the NC State bricks give campus a unique an consistent look that leaves a lasting impression.
     
  • School colors: Red and White, but the original colors for North Carolina State College of Agricultural and Mechanical Arts were pink and blue. In November 1895 the school colors were changed to red and white.
